π§π»ββοΈ How to De-Bog Yourself
It's January.
You're either fired up right now, bursting at the seams with exciting resolutions and full of fresh new year energy.
Or... you're feeling a bit blue. Low mojo, if you will.
New year, new meh
We all respond to the new year differently.
There's a lot of pressure to hit the ground running, but that doesn't come naturally for many people.
For some of use (ππ»ββοΈ), January feels like one long Monday.
Rather than sprinting out of the gate, I've been taking this year slow: reading lots of year-in-reviews and doing my own annual reflection.
It's long, but it's worth reading the whole thing. Spend 15-20 minutes reading it instead of scrolling on your phone.
The "try harder fallacy" and "infinite effort illusion" really hit home for me, but I imagine you'll take away at least 2-3 specific insights that will be helpful for your specific situation and personality.
Awe is one of the foundational human emotions, alongside primal feelings like joy, disgust and surprise.
You've experienced awe, maybe when you saw your child being born, or when you gazed into the Grand Canyon, or when you sang in unison with 50,000 other concertgoers.
I can still remember the feeling of awe I had hiking The Narrows at Zion National Park.
It's a feeling of vastness, something so big it's hard to comprehend. It makes you feel like a small part of something larger. It puts things in perspective.
Awe can give you chills, make your hair stand up, make you cry.
Research has shown that people who feel awe more often report higher rates of satisfaction with life and greater feelings of well-being. Awe can help us be less stressed, less materialistic, and less isolated.
So, if you want to enrich your life this year, seek more awe.
π§π»βπ» Ask Me Anything
In case you missed last week's newsletter, I'm doing a Q&A on YouTube to celebrate hitting 500k subscribers (here's the last one from a few years back).
So, hit 'reply' and ask me anything style, watches, EDC, content creation, parenthood, or whatever else is on your mind.
I read every email, even if I don't respond. So ask away!
π Food for Thought
Donβt be seduced into thinking that that which does not make a profit is without value.
Got any video ideas for me? Hit 'reply' and share them!
β βDid you know? Yesterday was "Quitter's Day", an informal holiday marking the point when most people give up on their new year's resolutions (especially the fitness related ones). Why not make a PACT instead?
