My Watch Collection & The Secret Origins of Your Clothes

Plus, how military and hiking gear turn into menswear

by Brock McGoff

Hello again! I hope your week is going well so far.

In today's email:

  • My updated watch collection
  • Military, hiking and menswear
  • Unprecedented times
  • Comfy fashion

Let's dive in πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

⌚️ My Watch Collection

Here's a fresh look at my current watch collection, along with my philosophy around "collecting" watches:

What's on your wrist these days? Hit 'reply' and let me know.

Oh, one more thing: I was so pleased with a mod kit I bought from SKXMOD, I reached out and asked if they'd like to give you a discount.

They said yes! So, you can use the code BROCK10 for 10% off your order of a mod kit or full build at skxmod.com.

(Not sponsored or affiliated btw, just a fan.)

Military 🀝 Menswear

Most people know that many of our clothes have military (or utilitarian) roots.

But I had know idea just how strong the connection was.

Same with outdoor or hiking gear. It's just not about the #gorpcore trend.

There's a deep historical relationship between outdoor performance apparel, military gear and mainstream clothing.

In this interview with GQ, Avery Trufelman (creator of the Articles of Interest podcast) talks about this relationship in fascinating detail.

πŸ’ Food for Thought

Every time period that’s ever transpired has seemed unprecedented to the people who happened to live through it.

🀳🏼 Who I'm Following

@jinswardrobe

One thing all of the menswear creators I follow have in common is comfort. They look comfortable in their clothes.

Jin is a great example of this. Whether he's going casual, suited up or somewhere in between, he just seems...cozy.

I love this. Clothes shouldn't feel restrictive, even dress clothes.

Jin seems to get this too.

Did you know? The Rolex Datejust, released in 1945, got its name because it was the first wristwatch to automatically change the date at midnight, β€œjust” when the date changed. At the time, this was an engineering leap forward for the world of horology!

Until next time,

Brock
