🌊 Get in the Water

Those of us in the Northern Hemisphere are sliding into the dog days of summer.

But there’s still plenty of time for beach trips, lake house hangs, river floats and poolside BBQs.

Here’s a reminder for whoever needs it:

Whenever life presents you with an opportunity to jump in a body of water, do it.

A pool, lake, the ocean, a waterfall…even just a river or lake that you’re used to

You must get in.

Temperature doesn’t matter. In fact, cold is good.

Sometimes you need to shock the lizard brain. Remind your body that you are, in fact, an animal whose ancestors roamed the earth and hunted megafauna for sustenance.

Even if only for a few seconds, jump in.

I guarantee you’ll feel fantastic afterward, or your money back.

😎 How to Be Cool

Are some people just born “cool”? Is being cool something anyone can learn?

Well, a bunch of social scientist nerds tried to nail down an objective definition of the word, and they came up with the following attributes:

  1. extroverted
  2. hedonistic
  3. powerful
  4. adventurous
  5. open
  6. autonomous

If those don’t sound like you, don’t worry. There are different flavors of cool.

You don’t have to be an extrovert or a pleasure-seeking rebel.

A quiet, calm, self-assured guy who’s comfortable with his personal philosophy about how to live is definitely cool.

In other words, authenticity is cool. Trying to be something you’re not isn’t.

Mr. Porter has a good write up on the topic. Do you agree with their take?

🤳🏼 Who I’m Following

@theessentialman

Peter Nguyen is a high end personal stylist from NYC.

In terms of lifestyle and aesthetic, I share very little in common with Peter.

Despite that, I find his content inspiring in an aspirational way.

It quietly nudges you to go ahead and buy that slightly unreasonable luxury accessory you’ve been eyeing, or to get dressed up and go sit at a fancy bar alone, see what happens.

Go check him out!

Did you know? Many guys used to wear belted swim trunks. This was before stretchy performance fabrics were a thing, of course. No elastic waistbands, just soggy belts.

Maybe they’ll come back some day…

Until next time,

Brock
