EDC Upgrade, Cost Per Wear & My Favorite Socks

EDC Upgrade, Cost Per Wear & My Favorite Socks

Plus, my favorite "dadfluencer" right now

🔑 A Small (But Mighty) EDC Upgrade

Keys are the bulkiest, most unruly part of everyday carry.

For years, I’ve carried my keys on a carabiner that attached to a belt loop.

The problem is, many bottoms — think drawstring shorts — don’t have belt loops.

I searched high and low for a solution and finally found this cool little carabiner/pocket clip combo.

It’s made from titanium, which makes it lightweight but tough.

You can use it 3 ways:

1 - Clipped to a belt loop

2 - Clipped inside your pocket

3 - Clipped to your waistband (what I do 80% of the time)

It’s just $18, and I have an extra discount for you (good until Aug 19):

On Amazon, use code COLGGL9Z for 15% off. That discount can also be used for this other clip, this D ring, this keychain knife, and this quick release (which I also use).

You can see my setup in my latest EDC video.

💸 Cost Per Wear

You’re probably familiar with the concept of “cost per wear” or “cost per use”.

COST PER WEAR = PRICE OF ITEM / # OF WEARS

But do you actually think about your possessions in this way?

Do you really do the math when contemplating a potential purchase?

Most people don’t. But they should, because it makes a lot of sense.

Some of my most expensive purchases — Natuzzi sofa, Rolex watch, Apple laptop — have gotten so much use over the years.

These things are durable, and I love interacting with them, which means I use them a lot.

So the cost per use becomes pennies over time.

Here’s a good article on this topic from Heddels.

🧦 My Favorite Socks…

…are from American Trench.

They’re made in the USA but still priced similarly to other premium brands like Smartwool and Bombas.

I especially like the Quarter Crews.

Perfect length for sneakers. Nice four season weight.

Grab yourself a pair or three!

🤳🏼 Who I’m Following

@blakeoftoday

Blake Kasemeier documents “the un-magnificent lives of adults” one poetic, slow-mo Instagram Reel at a time.

He manages to capture the strange, emotionally volatile vibe that comes with fatherhood and middle age.

He’s also a black belt in BJJ, which is badass.

His take on Crocs is especially poignant. I’m right there with him.

In Case You Missed It 👀

I’m (still) working on another comfy shoe roundup featuring a bunch of new brands, some of which you probably haven’t heard of.

Stay tuned!

Did You Know? When you see 925 stamped on a silver ring or bracelet, that means it’s made from sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper).

If it was 100% silver, it would be too soft.

The name "sterling" comes from “Easterlings,” a group of 12th-century German merchants known for trading with consistent-quality silver coins.

Until next time,

Brock
