Comfy Shoes, Fall Faves & J.Crew in Trouble

Comfy Shoes, Fall Faves & J.Crew in Trouble πŸ€–

Also, one thing that must be earned...

by Brock McGoff

I saw a dog chasing a cat, and they were both walking.

That's how hot it is where I live...still!

But I know that fall is coming, and I'm excited for cooler weather and wearing layers.

Are you also ready for fall, or are you soaking in the last bits of summer?

πŸ‘Ÿ Comfy Shoes

I just posted an updated comfy footwear round up featuring 16 pairs of casual comfort-focused shoes.

These were my top 5 picks:

  • New Balance 860 - plush, supportive, major dad vibes
  • Asics 1130 - on trend "sportstyle" shoe available in a bunch of colors
  • Hoka Gaviota 5 - chunky, squishy, more stable than most relationships
  • Altra Experience Form - easy way to test out the low drop, wide toe box style
  • Tread Labs Redway - a sleeker, slightly less #gorpcore Chaco (but no less durable)

Got any brands or models I should check out? Please share 'em!

😐 J.Crew Messed Up

J.Crew got called out for publishing an AI generated ad campaign, which they're now calling "digital art".

Basically, the guy they hired to produce the campaign images leans heavily on AI to create his work.

He doesn't hide this. He even calls himself "AI Sam".

The problem here is that J.Crew didn't disclose this – they still haven't said whether or not the models in the "photos" are real people.

I don't know how this got approved. I mean, people are VERY wary of AI "art" right now, partly because of its potential impact on the creative job market.

Even if this campaign took skill and creativity to execute – which it did – it means no models or stylists were involved (so only one person got paid).

No matter what you think about AI and its role in creativity or job markets, this is a huge blunder, and the pitch forks are out.

Are people overreacting? Does this change your opinion of J.Crew?

πŸ’ Food for Thought

Mastery is the best goal because the rich can't buy it, the impatient can't rush it, the privileged can't inherit it, and nobody can steal it. You can only earn it through hard work. Mastery is the ultimate status.

πŸ‚ Fall Favorites

Here are a few things I'm excited to start wearing (once it actually cools down around here):

I'll take some fit pics after I get the sleeves shortened!

What are you excited to wear this fall?

Did you know? Penny loafers got their name when college kids in the 1940s and 50s started tucking a coin into the cutout slot on the leather vamp It was partly in case of emergency (e.g., a phone call), but mostly just to be funny and/or fashionable. The name sure did stick!

Until next time,

Brock
